Dr. Muhammad Atif Yaqub is a physicist and researcher specializing in nanophotonics, low-dimensional materials, and optoelectronic devices. He obtained his PhD in Sciences and Technologies of Chemistry and Materials from the University of Genoa, Italy, conducting research in collaboration with the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT), Genoa.
His research focuses on the design, fabrication, and characterization of nanophotonic structures and semiconductor devices based on novel layered materials, including gallium telluride (GaTe), indium selenide (InSe), and tungsten disulfide (WS₂). His work investigates the interaction of light with nanostructured materials to enhance optical emission and develop improved optoelectronic functionalities.
His technical expertise includes electron-beam lithography, atomic layer deposition, reactive-ion etching, optical spectroscopy, photoluminescence and Raman spectroscopy, and numerical electromagnetic simulations using COMSOL Multiphysics and ANSYS HFSS. His broader research interests include nanophotonic engineering, light–matter interactions, photonic resonances, and the development of advanced materials and devices for optoelectronic applications.
